ADHD Support, Done the Right Way

Please note that our ADHD service is currently available primarily as a service for residents of Prince Edward Island (PEI). All medical referrals, if required, are handled through the Provincial Health Care System. Our coaching sessions are private-pay services and consist of one intake session followed by 2–3 follow-up sessions. Please take the time to carefully read all program information and disclaimers before proceeding.

If you or your child may be struggling with ADHD, it can be hard to know where to begin.

PEIDoctor offers a more thoughtful pathway — starting with supportive intake and coaching, and helping guide appropriate next steps when medical assessment may be needed. With a Clear Referral Pathway to Physician Care and a Medical ADHD assessment that occurs within the provincial healthcare system. We provide a more structured and supportive pathway. One that is supported by licensed PEI doctors with extensive experience in ADHD. Where physician assessment is appropriate, that medical care occurs within the provincial healthcare system. This is one of the most important differences in our model.
Supportive • Ethical • Medically Appropriate • Continuity-Based

Referral Pathways

When appropriate, our team may support referral to licensed physicians for independent medical assessment.
Some physicians practicing within the provincial healthcare system, may accept referrals from a variety of sources, including our service.
Referral is not guaranteed, and all referrals are considered and managed independently by the receiving physician in accordance with their own clinical judgment and office processes.
All medical assessment and treatment decisions are made independently by the physician and are not influenced by participation in our coaching services.

Physicians are not compensated for receiving referrals, and any referrals from our service are handled in accordance with the physician’s usual intake and referral practices within their medical office.

It helps ensure the physician component of care is handled in a way that is:

-
legally appropriate
-
ethically sound
-
clinically responsible
-
aligned with professional standards

Looking for ADHD help can feel overwhelming
Whether you are a parent seeking answers for your child or an adult wondering whether ADHD may be affecting daily life, it is understandable to want clarity.
There are many online services offering ADHD-related care, but not all care models are built the same way.
At PEIDoctor, we believe people deserve a pathway that is:
-
supportive
-
medically appropriate
-
ethically structured
-
designed for real follow-up and continuity
We are not built around rushed assessments or quick answers without a plan.
Instead, we help individuals and families begin in a way that feels clear, responsible, and supported.

What good ADHD care should include..

Before choosing any ADHD service, it is worth asking a few important questions.

Will there be proper ongoing care?

ADHD care does not usually begin and end with one appointment. A proper medical pathway may involve follow-up, ongoing symptom review, medication discussions, reassessment over time, and support planning for school, work, or daily life.

If a physician is involved in ADHD assessment or treatment, there should be a clear plan for who provides ongoing care. A helpful question to ask:
"If ADHD is diagnosed, who will actually provide the follow-up care?"
Is medication being handled responsibly?

Some medications used in ADHD treatment are restricted / controlled medications, which means prescribing them comes with important medical responsibilities.

These medications may require careful assessment, safety screening, follow-up, and ongoing monitoring.
ADHD medication should never be treated like a quick online transaction.

Are the limitations of virtual care being taken seriously?

Virtual care can be very helpful and improve access for many people.
At the same time, not every person or situation is best served entirely online.

A trustworthy ADHD pathway should be honest about both the benefits and the limitations of virtual care.
Is the medical side of care happening in the right setting?

ADHD assessment and physician-based medical management are important parts of healthcare. In Prince Edward Island, this type of physician care is generally understood to belong within the public healthcare system, rather than being approached as a private-pay shortcut.

That distinction matters. People seeking help deserve care that is ethical, appropriate, and structured for continuity.
Why PEIDoctor is different
Our model was designed around a simple principle:

People deserve support first, proper medical care when appropriate, and continuity throughout.

- We are not a “quick diagnosis” service.
- We are not a prescription shortcut.
- And we do not believe ADHD care should begin and end with a rushed virtual encounter.
- Instead, we provide a more structured and supportive pathway. One that is supported by licenses PEI doctors with extensive experience in ADHD.

Our ADHD Support Pathway

Step 1 — Start with supportive intake and coaching

We begin with structured intake and ADHD-focused supportive coaching.

This helps create space to:
-
understand symptoms and concerns
-
explore day-to-day challenges
-
identify whether ADHD may be part of the picture
-
clarify readiness for further assessment
-
support practical next steps

For many people, simply having a knowledgeable and supportive place to start makes the process feel far more manageable.

Step 2 — Referral support when medical assessment may be appropriate

If, through the intake and coaching process, a formal medical ADHD assessment appears appropriate, our team can help support referral into ADHD-experienced physicians for an independent medical assessment.

A diagnosis should be made independently by the physician based on proper medical judgment — not pre-decided or rushed.

Step 3 — Physician ADHD assessment occurs within the provincial healthcare system

Where physician assessment is appropriate, that medical care occurs within the provincial healthcare system.

This is one of the most important differences in our model.

It helps ensure the physician component of care is handled in a way that is:
-
legally appropriate
-
ethically sound
-
clinically responsible
-
aligned with professional standards

Step 4 — Appropriate ongoing physician care is part of the pathway

If ADHD is diagnosed and ongoing medical care is needed, appropriate physician follow-up is part of the care pathway.

That may include treatment planning, medication review where appropriate, monitoring over time, and continuity of care beyond the initial assessment.
Because good ADHD care should not leave people unsupported after the first important step.

FAQ: ADHD Specific Coaching Program:

Please note that our ADHD service is currently available primarily as a service for residents of Prince Edward Island (PEI). All medical referrals, if required, are handled through the Provincial Health Care System. Our coaching sessions are private-pay services and consist of one intake session followed by 3 follow-up sessions. Please take the time to carefully read all program information and disclaimers before proceeding.

With respect to our ADHD coaching services, these have been developed with input from a licensed physician to ensure they are structured, supportive, and appropriate within a non-clinical scope.

Many structured ADHD support programs typically range from approximately 6–10 sessions. In response to the high level of need for timely access to support, we offer an initial intake followed by a shorter coaching series (e.g., 3 sessions), which may be appropriate for some individuals depending on their needs.

These coaching sessions are non-medical and are designed to provide:
-
Education about ADHD
-
Practical strategies for organization, focus, and daily functioning
-
General guidance on navigating next steps, including how to prepare for potential medical consultations

As part of this process, we may provide general information to help individuals understand how to seek further medical assessment if appropriate. However, referrals to physicians are never guaranteed, and any decision to assess, diagnose, or treat is made independently by the physician based on their own clinical judgment.

If an individual is seen by a physician, that physician operates fully independently and is not directed or influenced by our coaching services. Physicians may or may not take prior coaching into account as part of their overall understanding, at their sole discretion.

Continuity of Care

We encourage continuity of care and appropriate follow-up within the healthcare system where available. From a coaching perspective, our team remains available to provide ongoing non-clinical support focused on skills, structure, and accountability.

Our Commitment

Our goal is to provide timely, supportive, and responsible access to ADHD-related services while fully respecting the roles, responsibilities, and professional standards of all involved in patient care.

Our coaches are carefully selected through a structured review, including relevant professional and lived experience supporting youth and adults. Many bring significant experience from roles within highly structured or supervised program environments (e.g. under supervision of Ministry/Crown Corporation.)

All coaches receive training in our internal program model to ensure a consistent, supportive, and non-clinical approach focused on practical skills, organization, and day-to-day functioning.

School involvement: Families are welcome to access our services directly. While educators may choose to inform families about available supports, participation in our program is always initiated by the parent/guardian.

Age range and parental involvement: Our intake currently supports individuals aged 6 and up. For younger clients, we strongly encourage parent or guardian involvement to support engagement and follow-through between sessions.

Session structure and timing: We recommend spacing sessions approximately one week apart, particularly for youth, to allow time for reflection and practical application. Sessions are not scheduled consecutively on the same day.

We have three additional coaches all just completing our internal program on Wednesday - you should be able to find their availability on our booking page by the end of this week.

Program format - Our program includes:
One intake session
Three structured coaching sessions focused on:
-Understanding ADHD-related patterns
-Building practical strategies and tools
-Supporting implementation and habit development
This is designed as a foundational coaching program. Some clients may choose to pursue additional support beyond this. Where appropriate, we may also support clients in organizing relevant information and questions to discuss with a primary care provider.

Our commitment to compliance:
To ensure ongoing access to services, we are careful to describe our program accurately and within regulatory guidelines. Our focus is on:
-Improving access to structured support
-Helping individuals and families navigate available options
-Coordinating services in a responsible and compliant manner.
